Results of Gitcoin Grants Round 18th (GG18) by Meta Pool: Empowering LatAm Initiatives for a Sustainable Future

As we approach the end of the year in 2023, we are pleased to share the highlights of the recent Round 18 of Gitcoin Grants (GG18) from Meta Pool, which has sought to make a significant impact on the development of equality, sustainability, and education within our community.

The projects developed through this round have become fundamental pillars to drive the advancement of the web3 ecosystem, reflecting our shared commitment to building a better future. In addition to these substantial achievements, we garnered active participation from over 200 individuals across Latin America, along with a social media reach that exceeded 10,900 viewers, underscoring the crucial role of collaboration in the dynamic evolution of our technological landscape.

To this end, Meta Pool actively contributed through a Matching Fund of 25,000 DAI, with a 10% Matching Cap, providing sustainable funding for 14 projects in a decentralized manner. Furthermore, staking reward fees generated from the first 1000 ETH delegated to the Meta Pool protocol will be reinvested, amplifying our impact on the emerging economic powers of Latin America.

This success highlights the significance of working together to drive progress.

Showcasing the Impactful 14 Projects:

In the educational realm, mxweb3 Crypto Hub stood out as a catalyst in Monterrey, Mexico, fostering collaboration among 63 participants to immerse them in the world of liquid staking. Crypto Carnes, Open Web Academy (OWA), and Colledge played a crucial role in educating Latin Americans about Blockchain and WEB3, implementing learning programs, promoting the liquid staking platform, and contributing to community development.

In the social and environmental impact sphere, ReFi Medellin emerged as a beacon for inclusive and ecologically regenerative urbanism, collaborating with ReFiDAO and engaging 61 contributors. Fundacion Salvaterra worked on transforming rural areas, providing technical assistance, and promoting sustainable practices. Meanwhile, Green Digital Guardians focused on creating a community for decentralized environmental protection, utilizing technologies like Blockchain and NFTs.

In financial education and inclusion, DeFinomics Labs, born from The Merge, migrated financial talent to web3. Nación Bankless, aligned with BanklessDAO, provided tools and content to Spanish speakers, significantly contributing to decentralized finance knowledge in the Latin American community. CryptoConexión, a specialized Web3 platform, offered tutorials and directories, becoming a catalyst for change. WAGMI LatAm, on the other hand, aimed to increase female participation in Web3, focusing on education, resources, and empowerment.

Considering the regional and cultural impact, Projects from the ETH Venezuela Community explored the uses and benefits of Ethereum, contributing to knowledge and adoption. In Peru, AQKU conducted workshops on the basic principles of blockchain to encourage the adoption of new technologies. T2LATAM, a Web3 community in Latin America, promoted blockchain and Web3 technologies with over 2 years of experience.

A Commitment to the Future:

The success of Gitcoin Grants Round 18 reaffirms Meta Pool’s commitment to tirelessly work for initiatives that contribute to the progress of our region. Beyond financial support, these events have cultivated a spirit of unique cooperation that we hope will echo through time. Our mission is clear — to uphold Latin values, support native projects, and position Latin America as a significant player in the global web3 landscape.

While we recognize the abundance of human resources in our region, we understand the need to make sustained efforts and provide opportunities for those who seek them. Therefore, Meta Pool will consistently prioritize assistance to emerging markets, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to continue promoting and supporting upcoming grants.

Despite our enthusiasm and commitment, we need to update you on our plans for the upcoming Gitcoin Grants rounds. While we initially aimed to participate as sponsors in both Gitcoin Grants 19 (GG19) and the Global Chinese community (GCC), the heavy load of commitments, events, and projects typical of year-end activities has led us to a tough decision. We have chosen to focus solely on the GCC, postponing our involvement in GG19. This decision enables us to concentrate our resources more effectively.

We understand the significance of both initiatives in fostering a more inclusive and diverse technological ecosystem. However, directing our efforts and resources towards a singular focus at this moment will allow us to make a more meaningful and sustained impact. We plan to participate in Round 20 (GG20) of Gitcoin Grants, where we aim to contribute with greater focus and resources, continuing our dedication to supporting the growth and development of the web3 ecosystem.

As we celebrate these achievements, we remain steadfast in our dedication to fostering a collaborative environment for the benefit of all. The journey continues, and we look forward to the positive impact these initiatives will bring to Latin America and the global web3 community.

We want to thank all the people who supported us in achieving what we accomplished, especially Jesús Gomero; We will fondly remember his support. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this challenging time.
