Meta Staking Vote: Reinforce Decentralization

Meta Staking Vote Reinforce decentralization

TL;DR

  • Meta Staking vote is LIVE with over 21.5 Million votes placed and counting
  • Live Pitch events: So far 17 node operators have presented their projects for nomination
  • Vote Leaderboard: The top 3 ranking node operators (27th December, 2022)

Overview

On the 8th of December 2022, Meta Pool successfully introduced Meta Staking Vote. The voting system serves to redistribute 15% out of the total NEAR delegation amongst node operators, currently more than 1 Million NEAR. This mechanism aims to involve the community in the governance process and reinforce decentralization. Anyone holding $META can vote by locking their governance tokens at MetaVote. The longer the $META is locked the greater amount of Voting Power is acquired. Within 3 weeks of its launch, our community has locked over 7 Million $META and allocated 21.5 Million votes amongst 20 different Node operators.

Live Pitch events

Introducing node operators amongst the community as candidates for nomination is key for deciding vote delegation. We held 2 node operator Live Pitch events on the 8th and 15th of December. A total of 17 node operators from around the world have taken the stage so far. These sessions offer a unique opportunity to hear from the people behind the nodes, and to learn what their projects stand for. The full presentations are available at our YouTube Channel.

Node Operators & Decentralization

Node operators generally don’t get much exposure, remaining in the web3 background. Yet they are the backbone to the blockchain ecosystem, maintaining the consensus of the public ledger, which is accomplished by transaction validation and monitoring live activity, that ensures system security. Nodes are the source of truth on the blockchain

A higher node count and a greater redistribution of the NEAR delegation amongst operators results in building a network that is decentralized, which brings resilience to the blockchain. And for this very reason participating in Meta Staking Vote matters. The good news is that voting is an ongoing process, with the allocation of 1% of TVL every 4 epochs to the most voted validators, approximately every 48h. So it’s never too late to play your part.

Meta Pool now has a standard delegation (85% TVL) and a voting delegation (15% TVL), the standard delegation will stay adjusted to the standard 4 point criteria; Low fees, high uptime, be an active validator and non-centralized. Voting delegation goes in accordance to the results of Meta Staking Vote. Voting delegation allows the Liquid Staking protocol to support new validators to increase their rank on the network and ensure they keep confirming transactions.

Leaderboard – 27 December 2022

Out of a total of 136 available candidates, 20 node validators have received votes. The above chart represents the top 10 in the leaderboard. The current 1st place is for ReadyLayerOne accumulating a whopping 26,89% of the votes, 2nd nearKoreaHub with 23,61% and in 3rd position Stardust with 21,81%. Here is a little more about the top 3:

1st place: Ready Layer One

Web3 podcast focused on the NEAR ecosystem. Jared and Joe create high quality education content to share with the community. Now as a node runner they also directly support the decentralization of the Network.

2nd place: Near Korea Hub

Give credit to these guys, they officially launched their NEAR node last November. They are the only Layer 1 in Korea that can offer support in the local language. Their mission is to become the Top of Mind for Korean developers working for large enterprises and the gaming industry. Watch their Live Pitch here.

3rd place: Stardust Staking

Stardust has been heavily involved within the NEAR ecosystem for some time. It is a company of node runners having nodes on various blockchains including NEAR, Solana, Polkadot and others. Watch their Live Pitch here.

The ongoing live vote results are available at vote.metapool.com

Once again we want to thank the people who took part in the live pitch events. For those node operators who didn’t have the opportunity to present or are considering joining, please reach out to us.

About Meta Pool & stNEAR

Meta Pool is the leading liquid staking solution for $NEAR and wNEAR token holders. With Meta Pool you earn NEAR staking rewards and maintain your liquidity to participate in DeFi protocols on NEAR and Aurora.

Users staking $NEAR and wNEAR with Meta Pool receive in exchange stNEAR (staked NEAR) tokens.

stNEAR simultaneously accrues staking rewards and unlocks users’ liquidity enabling them to participate in DeFi activities (e.g. lending, farming, borrowing) on NEAR and Aurora.

Meta Pool also solves the problems associated with Proof-of-Stake networks staking: illiquidity, immovability and accessibility. Meta Pool also aims to distribute staking in multiple validators to improve censorship-resistance of the NEAR network.

With a TVL of ~9 Million $NEAR and growing, Meta Pool has become in just a few months a cornerstone element of the NEAR ecosystem. Meta Pool is making NEAR Protocol more decentralized and therefore more secure.

In February 2022 Meta Pool has been successfully audited by BlockSec, confirming the implementation of the highest security standards.
