Working Toward a Decentralized Future
When our founders first started planning to launch a liquid staking solution on NEAR Protocol, our vision for this platform was to put NEAR token holders front and center of everything Meta Pool delivers. Stake Wars is another way Meta Pool is keeping that vision moving forward.
We envisioned a solution that will allow NEAR to succeed in decentralizing its network and improve censorship resistance. These efforts are especially important to our founders, who are both from two countries which have endured numerous crises and are still able to compete on the global stage.
Both Argentina and Mexico have always been thriving countries that have suffered deeply from centralisation. Despite this, their citizens have managed to create some of the largest technology companies in the region – Mercado Libre, Cornershop, KAVAK, Open Zeppelin and many other startups.
We are working toward a future that’s built on decentralized protocols, and we are committed to help NEAR become the leading Proof of Stake protocols in Web3. That is why we are collaborating with Pagoda to launch the Staking Wars initiative for the NEAR ecosystem.
Stake Wars is Helping NEAR Onboard Chunk Producer Nodes
The main goal of Stake Wars is onboarding new validator operators and chunk producer nodes to the NEAR Protocol network. Through a series of challenges we will be helping node operators and chunk producer nodes understand how to operate and maintain a Proof of Stake node and help secure the NEAR Protocol Network.
As you may know, a few months back Night Shade was announced. This will allow the launch of shards on the NEAR blockchain network and this will open up the possibility for new nodes to be onboarded into the network.
This is essential because it will improve the Nakamoto Coefficient for NEAR blockchain. For those new to this metric, it is essentially how you measure the decentralization of a blockchain; It represents the number of valuators that will have to collude to successfully slow down or block the NEAR blockchain from operating validations of its transactions.
What will Stake Wars Look Like?
The above explanation is all to demonstrate that increasing our number of node operators is critical. Stake Wars is designed to present several challenges to will help us ensure the reliability of our operators and infrastructure:
- Exposure of nodes to retail NEAR.
- Maintaining the infrastructure, hardware or cloud
- Deliver good node performance.
- Expose new regions, especially Latin America, Asia, Africa and Middle East.
- Community reach out to NEAR delegators.
This is just some of the work needed in order to secure your slot in the NEAR network. To do this we will be helping operators understand how they can kickstart a node and maintain it, the incentives structure around running a node on NEAR, and the community support behind it.

Liquid Staking Supports NEAR Delegation Distribution
At the start of this year, Proximity Labs delegated 1.5 million NEAR to Meta Pool and this was distributed to more than 84 validator nodes in the NEAR network.
Through the Staking Wars initiative we will be delegating thousands of NEAR tokens to each of the winners of this challenge, with a goal of distributing millions of NEAR tokens to onboard 300 chunk producer nodes. While we cannot yet confirm specific amounts, keep an eye on our socials for more information soon!
